The 199th LIB was the epitome of a U.S. Army Infantry unit and represented a wide cross-section of American society. Blacks, Whites, Mexicans, Ukrainians, Puerto-Ricans, Native Americans, Jamaicans, Germans, Japanese, Koreans, Canadians, Pacific Islanders, and even Swedes served in the Brigade ranks. There were no hyphenated-Americans there. Unlike so many of their peers back home in the world, these men answered when their country called.
