During the 199th’s four and a half years of service and almost daily combat, less than 25,000 young men served with the unit.

On a yearly basis, units such as the 1st Cavalry Division or the 25th Infantry Division had more personnel pass through their ranks than men that ever served with the 199th.

At the beginning of 1968, over 4100 personnel were on the roster for the Brigade.  There were actually more staff officers on duty in Saigon, Bien Hoa, and Tan Son Nhut than members of the 199th!
